Millie Waterman made Republic wrestling history at the Class 2 District 3 tournament in Belton, becoming the first Lady Tiger to qualify for the state tournament. Waterman earned her historic berth with a 7-3 victory over Nixa’s Abigail Weitzel in a fourth-place match at 120 pounds.
The win carried extra significance because Weitzel had defeated Waterman just a week earlier at the Central Ozark Conference tournament. For Waterman, a junior, the state qualification came after falling one win short as a sophomore last season.
“It felt pretty amazing. I’m really, really excited for state. I’m very proud of myself,” Waterman said.
Waterman’s historic state qualification, which came with a fourth-place district finish at 120 pounds, is our Performance of the Week.
