Republic Captures Team Title at Home Tournament

Republic wrestlers racked up 269 team points to capture their home tournament Saturday. The Tigers crowned three individual champions, outdistancing second-place Lathrop by 31 points.

Keaton Overcast hit a career milestone in the 138-pound championship match, earning his 100th victory with a 10-3 decision over Rogers’ Landon Holmes, a 2024 Arkansas state medalist. After taking injury time from a hard fall that knocked the wind out of him, Overcast regrouped and controlled the match.

“Feels good. It shows all my dedication and everything, that it paid off,” Overcast said. “There’s very few wrestlers that’ll start their freshman year and get enough chances to accomplish what I’ve done before their senior year.”

The path to Overcast’s milestone included a sudden victory win over Glendale’s Chance Hensley in the semifinals. He opened his day with two pins and a bye before the championship rounds.

Corbin Massey dominated the 120-pound bracket, winning by technical fall in the championship match against Joplin’s Lucas Allen. Massey won his first four matches by technical fall or pin, including an injury default victory over Logan-Rogersville’s Zion Hibbert in the semifinals.

Chase Hicks controlled his bracket at 215 pounds, ending with an 8-3 win over Logan-Rogersville’s Jacob Shinkarevich in the finals. Hicks reached the title match with a technical fall against Lathrop’s Andrew Scott in the semifinals.

Four Tigers earned second-place medals. Freshman Coy Chrihfield reached the 106-pound finals with three straight wins, including a semifinal pin against Camdenton’s Noah Lowe. Daniel Gonzalez dominated his path to the 144-pound finals with two technical falls and a major decision before falling to Rogers’ Isaac Chapracki. At 190 pounds, Tanner Gonzalez won his first four matches before dropping a 5-4 decision to Lathrop’s Remi Wolfe in the finals. Kameron Sutton reached the 165-pound championship match with three pins.

Mason Hartsock battled back for third place at heavyweight after a semifinal loss, pinning Smith-Cotton’s Danny Read in the consolation finals. Kaiden Patterson added a fourth-place finish at 157 pounds after reaching the semifinals with three straight pins.

Fourteen teams competed in the tournament. Lathrop finished second with 238 points, followed by Rogers (Arkansas) with 224. Logan-Rogersville took fourth with 188 points.
