The match marked the varsity debut for most of Republic’s players. Coach David Smashey saw positives despite the lopsided score.
“That’s a really solid and well-coached Catholic team,” Smashey said. “We did have some encouraging performances even though the match was one-sided.”
Senior Ella Lashley stood out, winning four games in her singles match. “Ella really competed and led by example,” Smashey said.
Eva Riley had the closest match for Republic, falling 8-6 in No. 5 singles.
