Quick Start Fades in Soccer Loss to Kickapoo (Photos)

It took less than four minutes to score a goal against Springfield Kickapoo Monday, but the Lady Tigers were unable to build on the early momentum in a 2-1 road loss. Kickapoo scored twice before halftime to take the lead for good and held off a couple of Republic scoring opportunities in the second half to secure the win. (Scroll down for photos.)

Republic’s only goal came on a through ball from Molly Blades to Adison Gibbs, who outran two defenders and shot the ball past approaching goalkeeper Ellie Shevey to give Republic the lead.

Watch Republic’s Goal:

Kickapoo evened the score about six minutes before halftime when Sophie Young found a loose ball on the left side of the box and fired it through traffic and off the hand of Awbree Berning to even the score.

Approximately two minutes later, Elli Davison secured the lead for Kickapoo. Positioned near the right edge of the goal box, just a yard or two from the goal line, Davison lofted the ball over the outstretched arms of Berning, stationed at the front post, to see it hit the back post and ricochet in.
