By the Numbers: Kris Flood Edition

Longtime Republic girls basketball coach Kris Flood is retiring after 25 seasons. Here’s some of what he’s accomplished, By the Numbers. (Research contributed by Chris Stueve.)

2

The number of state championships won by Flood’s teams. Flood was head coach of the Lady Tigers in 2004, when they beat Duchesne 61-56 to capture Republic’s second state title. He followed that up with a second championship in 2012, when the Lady Tigers topped Smithville in the championship game, 53-51.

21.2

The average number of wins per season for Flood’s teams. Flood finished his career with a 530-178 record. His teams won 26 games twice, in 2005-06, and in 2022-23.

9

The number of Central Ozark Conference championships won by Republic during Flood’s tenure. Republic won or shared the title in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2016, 2019, 2021, and 2024. In five of those seasons (’02, ’03, ’16, ’19, and ’24), Republic was unbeaten in conference play.

60%

The percentage of seasons in which Republic won a district championship under Flood. In 25 seasons, Republic captured 15 district titles. Republic won four consecutive district titles twice during that time, from 2009-2012 and from 2014-2017.

11

The number of state quarterfinal appearances for Republic during Flood’s time as head coach. Republic reached the quarterfinals under Flood in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2020 and 2023. That means 44% of Flood’s teams were state quarterfinalists. (Note, I inadvertently left 2020 off the list of quarterfinal years on my original count.)
