Republic wrestlers hovered near the top of the standings all day at the Central Ozark Conference championship in Willard before finishing fifth in a tight race, just 13.5 points shy of the winner, with the top five teams closely contested.
Carl Junction eked out a championship with 164 team points. Nixa was runner-up with 160. Neosho had 159. Willard had 157, and Republic tallied 151.5. The race for first place was so close, teams frequently moved up or down several places in the course of a few minutes. Republic led several times throughout the day.
Keaton Overcast was Republic’s top finisher. He was runner-up at 132 pounds, losing a 3-1 decision to Caden Harrington of Ozark in the final.
Corbin Massey (106), Phillip George (113), Ryland Rogers (120), Chase Hicks (175), and Maddox Wilkins (190) all finished third. Shea Rogers (126) was fourth.
