Republic allowed only five points in the first half and scored 27 points in a row during one stretch to blast Joplin 78-21 in the Central Ozark Conference opener. Misora Nambara led the Lady Tigers with 19 points.

The game was never in doubt, as the Lady Tigers jumped ahead 8-0 and did not allow a field goal until more than three-and-a-half minutes had elapsed. That was the first shot Joplin got off without turning the ball over. From that point until early in the second quarter, Republic scored 14 points in a row to take a 22-2 lead.
After a three-pointer by Joplin’s Kelly Kumbier made the score 22-5, Republic went on a 27-0 run, leading 39-5 at halftime and 49-5 before Joplin scored again. By the end of the third quarter, Republic was on top 69-12, thanks to a 30-point quarter.
In addition to Nambara, three other Lady Tigers were in double figures. Lauren Chastain had 15 points, Lanney Strong had 13, and Alaina Norman finished with 10.
Republic’s record is now 8-4. The Lady Tigers are 1-0 in the COC. Joplin is 4-9 (0-1).
Republic is off until next Thursday, when they open the Nixa Invitational Tournament against Cape Girardeau Central.
