The Republic boys wrestling team brought home the team gold from the Bentonville West Invitational Tournament Saturday. The Tigers finished with 241.5 team points, edging second-place Van Buren (229) and third-place Bentonville (226).
Maddox Wilkins was the top finisher for Republic and the only Tiger to win gold in his weight class. He ran his season record to 8-0 and earned the 190-pound championship with an overtime win over Cameron Braswell of Claremore in the title bout.
Three other Republic wrestlers made it to the championship match but finished second: Keaton Overcast at 126 pounds, Manning Wilkins at 165, and Chase Hicks at 175.
Four others from Republic finished third: Corbin Massey (106), Phillip George (113), Daniel Gonzalez (138), and Braydin Casey (157).
The girls team finished tenth overall, with 49 points, tying with Fort Smith Southside. Anna McBroom was Republic’s top finisher, placing third at 120. Millie Waterman finished fourth at 110.
