Republic Defense Smothers Mt. Vernon in Pink & White Opener

Republic dominated defensively in its opening-round game at the Pink and White Lady Classic Wednesday, routing Mount Vernon 64-25. The Lady Tigers held Mount Vernon to 12 points in the first half and only eight field goals all night.

Lanny Strong got Republic off to a quick start with 11 first-half points. She made three three-pointers in the second quarter to fuel Republic, as the Lady Tigers led 43-12 at halftime.

Three players finished in double-figure scoring for Republic, led by Misora Nambara with 12. Strong and Alaina Norman each had 11.

The win is the fourth straight for Republic. The Lady Tigers are 6-2 overall as they head into a quarterfinal game Thursday at 8:00 pm at O’Reilly Family Event Center. Republic (seeded fourth) will play Springfield Glendale (seeded fifth). The Lady Falcons beat Thayer 47-42 in their opening-round game.
