Republic Rewind: A Recap of Last Week’s Sports

To help you catch up with everything happening in Republic sports, here’s a brief recap of the high points from last week that you can read in about a minute.

Football
In Friday’s homecoming game, Republic defeated Willard 21-20. Despite three turnovers, strong defense and run game contributed to the win. Coach Ryan Cornelsen acknowledged room for improvement but said, “A win’s a win, and we’re happy with it.” Wyatt Woods and Kanon Krol were key contributors.

Soccer
Republic soccer ended a four-game win streak with a 1-0 overtime loss to Carl Junction. They rebounded with a 5-1 win against Springfield Central. Santino Stiglianese’s four goals were the highlight. The team’s record now stands at 6-4.

Volleyball
Republic’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to six with straight-set wins over Willard and Neosho. Rilynn Finley and Brooklyn Claxton were among the standout performers. The team’s overall record improved to 16-4.

Softball
The softball team lost to Nixa and Webb City. The Lady Tigers had the lead in both losses, but dropped to 2-4 in Central Ozark Conference play.The team’s record is now 11-10 overall.

Golf
Junior golfer Izzy Benson led Republic with a 13th-place finish at the Willard Ladies Invitational. Benson is focused on improving her game after making adjustments to her swing.

Tennis
Republic’s tennis team tied for the championship at the Nixa Invitational. Mari Davidson and the doubles team of Katie Teeter and Monica Henry secured first-place finishes.
