Republic’s golf team finished 11th out of 16 teams at the Pearson Invitational today, with a combined score of 425. That’s 25 strokes better than the team score posted at Willard last week. In the field of about 60 golfers, Izzy Benson earned a medal for her 14th-place finish with a score of 89 at Horton Smith Golf Course in Springfield.
Benson’s performance marks her second straight medal. Last week, she shot an 87 at the Willard Ladies Invitational, securing a 13th-place finish. The medal-winning performances follow a re-tooling of her swing last week and continued work on the changes in the time since the tournament in Willard.
Springfield Catholic led all teams with a score of 311. Glendale had 315, and Willard 363. Other Republic scores were 99 from Jenna Smith, 106 from Stephanie David, 129 from Paige Crosby, and 132 from London Crawford.
