Republic has never before come home from Jefferson City with as many individual track medals as it did this year. Four Republic athletes — Gracie Troester, Alaina Norman, Zion Allen, and Cooper Douglas — ended up on the medal stand in their events.
Troester and Norman each brought home two medals, becoming the first Republic girls to do that since 2002. It’s the first time ever that two different Republic girls have earned two medals in the same year. In Troester’s case, she shattered her own school records in both those events, finishing 15 seconds ahead of her previous best in the 3200m run and five seconds ahead of her pace in the 1600m run. Norman won a javelin medal for a second straight year, and she added a shot put medal to the mix this time around.
Zion Allen and Cooper Douglas each had the highest finishes for Republic athletes in their events. They placed fourth — Allen in the high jump and Douglas in the javelin. Douglas also set a new school record, breaking his own mark on his last throw as a Tiger.
All four of them capped our track coverage with the combined Performance of the Week.
