Performance of the Week – May 19, 2023

Sophomore Gracie Troester played a huge role in Republic’s win at the district championship in Carthage last weekend. It was the team’s first championship win since 1993, and Troester contributed 40 points to Republic’s total of 130.

Troester’s victories were in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m races. She was also part of the winning team in the 4x800m relay. These wins were despite her initial doubts about handling four events.

She remembers Coach Tori Mooneyham’s suggestion and her reaction: “I thought ‘Absolutely no way.’ I thought she was crazy, no offense to her,” Troester said. “I did not think I was capable of running four. I really thought I would die.”

Troester proved herself wrong, playing a crucial role in the district title. Her four victories were our Performance of the Week.
