Gracie Troester smashed the Republic record in the girls 3200m run Wednesday to lead the Lady Tigers in a strong performance at the Girls Night Out track meet in Springfield. Troester finished the race in 11:31.26, beating the previous record by more than three seconds. The record had been set by Audra Robinson in 2002.
Troester finished second in both the 3200m and the 1600m races, and those were among the top finishes by any Lady Tiger at the meet, which is one of the biggest of the year. More than 30 schools competed.
Republic athletes turned in 16 personal bests in a variety of events, including 11 top-eight finishes to earn medals. Although team honors aren’t awarded at the meet, Republic’s team finish was the best among local schools.
The other second-place finish for Republic came from Kristin Probst, who finished second in the 800m run.
Jenna Belcher also placed in two individual events, finishing sixth in the long jump (5.13m) and seventh in the triple jump (10.55m).
Gracie Woods finished not far behind Belcher in the long jump with a leap of 5.07m.
Kailey Manes finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.55m.
Alaina Norman finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 11.44m.
The 4x800m relay team of Troester, Misora Nambara, Cali Thompson, and Kristin Probst finished fourth with a time of 10:18.81.
The 4x400m relay team of Gracie Woods, Addison Fanning, Molly Mason, and Kristin Probst finished fifth with a time of 4:20.48.
