Republic blitzed Sedalia Smith-Cotton at home Tuesday, 57-28. The Tigers used a big first quarter to take control, out-scoring Smith-Cotton 24-8 in the first eight minute. Then Repbulic used an even bigger third quarter to put the game away, scoring the first 14 points of the second half and outpacing Smith-Cotton 14-3 in the quarter to take a 48-21 lead into the final period.
Nine different players scored for Republic, led by Ahlante Askew with 14. James Rexroat added 13 — nine of them in the first quarter.
Owen Fry scored his first career varsity points in the fourth quarter when he took a pass from Jordan Douglas, drove up the right side of the lane, and made a twisting, over-the-shoulder layup over his defender.
Smith-Cotton fell to 1-12 this season. Republic improved to 15-1 and stretched its once-in-a-generation winning streak to 14 games. The Tigers will take more than a week off until they step back on the court at the Bolivar Tournament next Thursday.
