The Republic track and field team will be busier than ever at the upcoming state track meet in Jefferson City. The Tigers and Lady Tigers qualified for state in ten different events at sectionals Monday, and that’s the most since at least 2003. (No records are online about state qualifications before then.)
Two of the events are relays and the others are individual events. The nine individual events at state is also the most for Republic since at least 2003.
Only twice in the past two decades has Republic qualified in as many as nine events – last year and in 2003. During that same 20-year period, the most state medals won by Republic in a single season is four, accomplished in 2015 by Jerney Jones (long jump), Tryston Ellison (100m dash), Haven Lander (pole vault), and Brooke Stanfield (high jump). Republic won three state medals twice during that time, in 2018 (Skyler Owen 2, Avylina Powell-Qualo), and in 2003 (Kenneth Bowling 2, Summer Ketron).
