Frey Finishes with Final-Round 80

Griffin Frey cut five strokes off his opening-round score, shooting an 80 on the second day of the Class 5 state golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau Tuesday. Frey’s two-day total of 165 was tied for 54th in the 83-competitor field.

William King of Rockhurst and Bryson Oots of Staley tied at the top of the leaderboard at 141. Among southwest Missouri golfers, Kickapoo’s Gaige Lewis finished highest, tied for 14th.

The best COC finish came from Noah Naugle of Nixa, tied for 31st with a 155. Carter Jackson of Ozark shot a 163, two strokes ahead of Frey. Nixa’s Chandler Burch was tied with Frey and two others at 165. Meyer Lively of Nixa, who tied with Frey at districts, finished one stroke behind Frey this week, at 166.

The tournament was the last for Frey, whose two state tournament appearances put him among the most successful golfers to play at Republic. He had also qualified as a freshman.
