Republic track put together one of its best all-around performances in memory at the SBU High School Invite Monday, with a second-place finish for the boys team and a fifth-place finish for the girls in the large-school division. Republic won four events, including both the boys and girls 4x400m relays to end the day in Bolivar.
Second place is the best finish listed online at the meet for the boys team, and for the girls, fifth place is the best finish at the SBU meet since 2014, when they were fifth.
Republic won two individual events back-to-back late in the day. First, it was Landen Finley winning the 400m dash with a time of 51.49. Miller Rountree followed that up by winning the 300m hurdles in 40.95.
In the last two events of the night, the girls and boys 4×400, Republic came out on top. In the girls race, Aaliyah Vasquez, Gracie Woods, Alaina Norman, and Kristin Probst finished first with a time of 4:11.76. In the boys race, Landen Finley, Miller Rountree, Will Fronabarger, and Devon McMillin finished first with a time of 3:30.43.
Two school records also fell. The girls 4×800 team of Miha Nambara, Gracie Troester, Misora Nambara, and Kristin Probst shaved 24 seconds off their previous best time, finishing second and beating the old school mark (set at state last year) by about three seconds in a time of 9:48.89. Alaina Norman’s javelin toss of 37.43m broke her own school record in that event.
