Balanced Tigers Topple Carthage, Stay Perfect in COC

Nobody had a standout game for Republic against Carthage Saturday. But nobody had to.

The Tigers put together their most balanced offensive game of the season, with four players scoring at least nine points, to beat Carthage 57-40 at home Saturday. Avery Moody led the team in scoring for a second straight game, finishing with 15 points. Devon McMillin had 13, Ahlante Askew scored 12, and Brenley Hagewood added nine.

Republic needed its typical stingy defense to maintain a lead in a sloppy first half. The Tigers turned the ball over eight times in the first half, while collecting just six rebounds. But Republic held Carthage to eight points in the first quarter and 20 in the half, taking a 25-20 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Republic cleaned up the turnovers, giving the ball away just three times in the final two periods. Republic also finished the game shooting 20-for-40 from the floor.

Republic improves to 14-7 overall and 4-0 in the Central Ozark Conference. Carthage falls to 15-5 (1-3).

The Tigers will be at Willard Tuesday for a girls/boys double-header.

Republic Scoring
Avery Moody 15, Devon McMillin 13, Ahlante Askew 12, Brenley Hagewood 9, Gunner Ellison 5, Will Fronabarger 3
