Republic sophomore Miha Nambara finished her standout cross country season with a top-50 finish at the state cross country meet in Columbia Saturday. She placed 50th in Class 4, in a field of 170 runners.
Nambara ran the race at Columbia’s Gans Cross Country Course in 19:38, just four seconds off her personal-best time, set last week at sectionals in Joplin. Among underclassmen, she finised 23rd.
Nambara the first girl cross country runner to qualify for the state meet since Kayla Bartelsmeyer and Megan Hergesheimer both qualified in 2012. Her 50th-place finish is the highest by a Republic female runner in at least a decade. It’s also the highest Class 4 finish ever for Republic girls cross country.
