Over the next week, two youth tennis events are planned in Republic. The first is Thursday morning at the middle school, where high school coaches and players will be introducing middle schoolers to the sport. It’s part of an effort to continue growing the tennis program with new athletes who will be moving to the high school in coming years.
The next event is a camp for boys and girls from fourth through eighth grades to be held next week. The two-day camp will be held on May 16-17 at the JR Martin Park tennis courts. Current middle school students will gather from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Current fourth and fifth graders, who get out of school later, will join at 3:40 and stay until 4:30.
The camp is free, and participants will get a camp T-shirt. There’s no need to register. Players can bring their own racquet, but extra racquets will be available.
