Snow and ice kept Republic out of school on Monday, but there was nothing cold about the Lady Tigers’ offensive performance at Branson. Republic burned up the nets in the first half on the way to a 56-30 road win over the Lady Pirates. Republic made five three-pointers in the first quarter, eight in the first half, and 12 for the game. That’s one short of the program’s single-game record.
The defense wasn’t half bad either. Republic held Branson to only four points in the first eight minutes, and led 22-4 at the end of the first quarter. The lead had bulged to 20 points, 35-15, by halftime. Coach Kris Flood says the fast start and was big on a day when both teams were out of school.
“Not having school today, so they’re not really into a routine, it was important,” says Flood. “To come out and hit those first couple threes, it kind of got us kick-started. We got a little momentum going. It’s always nice to do that.”
Halli Bartelsmeyer was the key contributor in the first quarter, making three treys and scoring all 11 of her points. Brylee Manes had a three-pointer in the first half, and finished with 13 to lead Republic. Megan Branstetter also finished in double figures, with 10 points.
