Two Republic wrestlers will bring home medals from the state tournament this weekend. The only question is which medal it will be.
Hunter Pyle and Julian Richardson have both advanced into the medal rounds in the Class 3 state tournament, and both took similar paths to get there. Pyle and Richardson won their opening matches on Thursday evening, lost their first matches on Friday, then won two in a row to secure a medal. If they win their first matches on Saturday, they’ll wrestle for third place. If they lose, they’ll wrestle for 5th.
Pyle is competing in the 195-pound weight class. Richardson is competing at 220.
The third Tiger wrestler to qualify for state — and the youngest — is sophomore Michael Taylor. Taylor also won his opener, but lost his next two matches on Friday and was eliminated.
