The Lady Tigers committed four turnovers in about three minutes, allowing Branson to score 13 straight points in the 4th quarter and steal a win in Republic Monday, 53-45.
Taylor Fergen had scored two consecutive buckets to start the 4th quarter, giving Republic a 39-36 lead. But Republic went cold, failing even to get off a shot on three consecutive possessions, and Branson capitalized. By the time Republic recovered, Branson had grabbed a 49-39 lead, and the Lady Pirates held on down the stretch for the win.
“We got in a bad spot there and had some lazy passes and critical turnovers, and they converted on every one of them,” says coach Kris Flood. “We got away from what we’d had a little success with in the first three quarters. We just totally lost momentum and the game got away from us. “
I told the kids we don’t have many games left to work and improve. It’s just going to have to be a work in progress. Hopefully we can bounce back.”
The loss dropped Republic to 13-9 overall. It was the first conference loss of the season. The Lady Tigers are now 4-1 in the COC. They have a week off before traveling to Nixa next Monday.
