[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Republic used scrambling, trapping pressure defense to speed up Branson, and the Pirates had no response, as Republic cruised to a 55-30 win at home Tuesday night. The Tigers allowed only four points in the 1st quarter en route to their fourth conference win of the season.
Caleb Singley led Republic with 15 points, many of them on layups as a result of turnovers forced by the Republic defense.
“We wanted to speed them up,” says coach Trevyor Fisher. “They’re methodical offensively. When we did go half-court, they just passed and passed. We thought we could turn them over and I think our pressure bothered them a little bit.
Republic led 15-4 after one quarter and 28-11 at half time. It was 43-21 heading into the final period.
Singley was one of three players in double figures in scoring for Republic. Fisher says the Tigers’ offensive balance remains one of its strengths.
“Treydon and Ty are our two leading scorers, but we have other guys who, on any given night, can step up and put the ball in the hole. That will be key down the stretch here, so teams can’t key on those two guys,” Fisher says.
The Tigers improve to 16-5 overall (4-0 COC). Branson falls to 5-17.
