Republic and West Plains were playing their fourth game in four days, but you wouldn’t have known it from watching the Lady Zizzers. West Plains ran its offense of back-cuts and quick passes to perfection, picking apart the Lady Tigers in a 59-37 win in the 5th place game of the Pink & White Lady Classic.
The teams played an even 1st quarter, with the Lady Zizzers holding a 10-9 lead after one. But the 2nd quarter belonged to West Plains. They outscored Republic 20-8 in the period, stretching the lead to 30-17 at the half.
Republic tried to climb back into the game, pulling within single digits at one point in the 3rd quarter — but West Plains pulled away in the 4th with another 20-8 performance over the final eight minuts.
Taylor Fergen led Republic with 10 points. Brylee Manes had eight and Allyson Barrett added seven. Madi Beckham and Halli Bartelsmeyer each scored three, and Megan Branstetter, Natalie Bennett, and Morgan McGuire had two apiece.
The Lady Tigers fall to 7-5. They’re off until they host Columbia Hickman on January 7.
Player of the Game
In a game where the Lady Tigers struggled to get moving offensively, it was Allyson Barrett’s effort that helped her stand out. She finished with seven points, including a couple of nice buckets on the block. She also kept going to the final buzzer, forcing a turnover against West Plains with defensive effort after the game was long out of reach. That extra effort earned her Player of the Game honors.
Our Lady Tiger Player of the Game honor is sponsored by the Tricia Phelps team at Coldwell Banker, eager to help you own your own home. Check out their website – TriciaPhelpsTeam.com – to find out more about how you can stop paying your landlord’s mortgage and become a homeowner yourself.
