The Lady Tigers softball team traveled all the way to Cape Girardeau to add some new competition to its schedule. So far, it’s turning out just like the competition from southwest Missouri.
Republic rolled through its first two games at the Notre Dame Invitational, beating St. Pius X 18-0, then following it up with a 4-1 win over the host team, Cape Girardeau Notre Dame.
In the opener, Kami Holt continued her torrid hitting. She went 4-for-4, slugged two home runs, scored four times, and drove in eight runs. Her eight RBIs broke the school record of seven in a game, set by Sommer Rose in 2008 and tied by Holt earlier this year against Hollister.
Allie Stolte was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Lady Tigers, and Rachel Rook struck out eight batters in just three innings of work. The game lasted only four innings, and Marlee Scroggins pitched a scoreless inning to finish it up.
The Lady Tigers played two games, so there are two Country Couture Players of the Game. In the opener, it was shortstop Kami Holt, blasting two homers and breaking a school record with eight RBIs in the game. In the nightcap, Rachel Rook earned the honors by striking out 16 and again refusing to allow an earned run to cross the plate.. All season long, Country Couture Boutique is sponsoring a player of the game for Lady Tigers softball. Stop in to their store across from Casey’s on Highway 174 for a complete selection of softball and other Tiger and Lady Tiger apparel.
In the second game of the day, Rook pitched a complete game and struck out 16 batters to lift the Lady Tigers to the victory. Rook allowed just three hits and walked one.
Holt homered again, giving her three on the day. Sydney Phillips also added a home run — her first of the season.
Rook has now pitched 32 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run to start the 2015 season. She has struck out 61 batters and has allowed only ten base hits in her first six games.
Republic improves to 6-0. The tournament continues Saturday in Cape Girardeau.
