Haven Lander and Tryston Ellison each won individual events at the Nixa Track and Field Invitational Tuesday, as the Tigers and Lady Tigers both finished 5th in the team standings.
Lander’s individual win came in the pole vault, where she cleared 10’6″, beating the nearest competitor by more than a foot. Lander also took fifth in the 100-meter dash, and was part of the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams that took fourth.
Ellison continued to make his case as the fastest sprinter in southwest Missouri with another individual championship in the 100-meter dash. Ellison finished the finals with a time of 11.01, short of his career best, but enough to edge out Republic’s Jersey Jones. Jones took second with a time of 11.18, with the next-fastest runner more than a third of a second behind him.
