The Republic Lady Tigers played like a #1 seed in their Pink & White quarterfinal game Monday. Republic put together one of its best performances of the year in a 74-49 win over #8 seed Stockton.
The Lady Tigers used their full-court pressure to create turnovers and easy points for a second consecutive game. They also shot the ball as well as they have all season.
“We really executed what we wanted to do,” coach Kris Flood says of his team’s first-half performance. “We went to our little box press. Getting our hands on some balls created some tips. We were able to get some baskets off that. We shot the ball well the first half.”
Republic led 20-13 after one quarter, but made two quick threes to push the lead to 13 in the opening minutes of the second. Republic led 43-23 at halftime and 61-37 after three quarters.
Jordan Kabetske led three Lady Tigers in double figures with 12 points. Brooke Stanfield and Michayla Shanks scored 11 apiece. Micah Mansker added nine, Brylee Argo and Tori Taylor had eight each, Jade Sawyer scored seven, Allyson Barrett scored five, and Logan Flood scored two.
The Lady Tigers also made eight three-pointers. Kabetske, Mansker, and Shanks made two treys apiece.
“Today, I thought we were a little more focused. We came out there and what we did in the first half key,” Flood says.
The Lady Tigers advance to the semifinals against #4 seed Kickapoo Tuesday at 7 pm at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Kickapoo beat Camdenton Monday to advance to the semis.
The semifinal will be a rematch of a game at Kickapoo earlier this year. The Lady Tigers came from behind to win that game 46-42.
