Republic’s withering full-court pressure helped the Lady Tigers overcome a slow start to knock off Mount Vernon 59-27 in the first round of the Pink & White Tournament Saturday. Republic only led 8-6 more than halfway through the first quarter, but outscored Mount Vernon 28-7 through the remainder of the first half, fueled by multiple turnovers in the backcourt. Republic led 36-13 at halftime.
The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Jordan Kabetske, with 11 points off the bench. Kabetske hit three three-pointers. Brylee Argo scored ten points. Tori Taylor added nine. Micah Mansker scored eight, Brooke Stanfield scored six, Jade Sawyer had five, Logan Flood scored four, Allyson Barrett scored three, Carly Bayans added two, and Michayla Shanks scored one.
One of the only difficulties for Republic came from the free throw line, where the Lady Tigers were only 14 of 23 for the game.
Republic advances to the quarterfinals of the White Division, where the Lady Tigers will meet eighth-seeded Stockton. Stockton squeaked by Ash Grove in a first-round matchup. The game will be played at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
