ccPhilip Canfield just keeps getting better. Canfield turned in his best time ever at the cross-country sectional meet in Nixa. His official time of 16:11 was good enough for 10th place, and qualified him to advance to the state cross-country meet in Jefferson City.

After running in 80-degree weather in the district race a week earlier, competitors were faced with 40-degree temperatures as they started the race Saturday. Canfield took advantage by shaving more than 10 seconds off his previous personal record.

On the girls’ side, Brylee Manes ran the race in 20:25, finishing 43rd overall. Madison Appleberry finished with a season-best time of 21:28.

Canfield will be making his first trip to state. He’ll run in the Class 4 race next Saturday.
