Republic Tiger Sports20140902-3The Republic Lady Tigers tennis team picked up its first win of the year, 8-1 over Webb City at home Tuesday. They dropped their match against Nixa later in the afternoon, 6-3.

Republic won five of six singles matches and swept the doubles matches against Webb City. Michaela Moore, Kaytlin Pearce, Ashley Cameron, Jocelyn Carpenter, and Makenzie Clark all posted wins in singles.

“We took care of our half of the court [against Webb City],” says Hanson. “We served well. We volleyed well. We tried to keep the mistakes down. We played with aggression.”

In the nightcap against Nixa, the Lady Eagles captured two of three doubles matches, and that set the tone for the night. Pearce and Cameron were the only two Republic players to win on the singles side.

Hanson says Cameron’s effort in both matches stood out.

“Ashley Cameron had an outstanding day on a really long day, just out of sheer hard work,” he says. “She’s our MVP today.”

Cameron went 4-0, and did it decisively, winning both her singles matches 8-2. She teamed with Kaytlin Pearce to win two doubles matches, 8-6 against Webb City and 8-3 against Nixa.

Pearce was also 4-0 on the day, although her singles wins were closer than Cameron’s — 8-6 against Webb City and 8-4 against Nixa.
