The Republic Lady Tigers splashed down 12 three-pointers, tying a school record, in a 79-50 win over Aurora Monday night at Republic. Michayla Shanks helped get things started with three treys in the 1st quarter, and ended with a team-high 16 points and four three-pointers for the game.

Jade Sawyer added four three-pointers of her own, Micah Mansker had two, and Jordan Kabetske and Alexis Ladwig each made one.

Aurora hung tough through the 1st period, despite the long-range barrage from Republic. It was 18-14 Republic after one. In the 2nd quarter, the defense picked it up for the Lady Tigers, helping them go on a 21-4 run leading into halftime.

“The 2nd quarter was a big quarter. We kind of stretched out (the lead,” says coach Kris Flood. “We’ve been doing that a little bit lately. We’ve stepped it up a notch and been getting a little more out of our defense.”

In the 3rd quarter, Republic outscored Aurora 19-15, and led 58-33 heading into the final period. It wasn’t until the game ended that Floor realized the Lady Tigers had tied a school record for threes.

“We really shot the ball well tonight. I didn’t realize we hit quite that many, but they’re very capable of doing that. We’ve got five or six kids who can shoot the three with consistency,” he says.

Shanks’s 16 points led Republic. Sawyer and Brooke Stanfield had 12 apiece. Mansker added ten, Jordan Kabetske scored nine, Brylee Argo and Tori Taylor each scored six, Bailey Cornelison had four, Alexis Ladwig scored three, and Logan Flood had one point.

The Lady Tigers improve to 15-4 overall this season. Aurora falls to 7-9.
