Republic High School has added two more all-state athletes to its All-State Hall of Fame. Football player Gus Carter and basketball player Marcus Miller both received plaques honoring their all-state contributions.
Carter was a three-year starter and a second-team all-state selection during both his junior and senior years. He was an all-conference and all-district selection both seasons, as well. Carter was also named to the All-Ozarks team, honoring the best players in all classifications in southwest Missouri, and he played in the Grid Iron Classic All-Star Game.
Carter graduated with a 4.2 grade point average and is currently a member of the Missouri State football team.
Miller was a part of the Tigers’ basketball program during two Final Four runs — once in 2010 and again in 2013, when he helped Republic win a Class 4 state championship. His most memorable moment was in the final seconds of the state semifinals against Liberty North in 2013, when he grabbed his own rebound and scored to give the Tigers a last-second victory. They would go on to defeat Normandy for the title.
Miller led the team in blocked shots as a senior with 42. He was named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State team, and was also selected to play in the Missouri Challenge All-Star Game at Drury University. He was also named to the All-District team.
Miller is currently a freshman at Evangel University, where he is redshirting this season as a member of the basketball team.
