The Republic Lady Tigers closed out the Pink & White Lady Classic with two straight victories, over Marionville and West Plains, to take 5th place in the tournament’s White Division.

In the 5th place game, Republic outscored West Plains 20-13 in the 4th quarter to pull away for the victory.

Tori Taylor scored 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Brooke Stanfield added ten. Twenty of the Lady Tigers’ 51 points came on free throws.

Coach Kris Flood says he was happy with his team’s performance in the tournament, especially after the loss to Ash Grove in the semifinals.

“I think we’re pleased to get out of this thing 3-1. We got to play four good teams, so I think that will only benefit us as we move on,” says Flood. “I thought the effort was a little more consistent (against West Plains).”

Both teams shot 29 free throws for the game. Republic made 20 of them, and West Plains made just 17.

In the previous consolation bracket game, Republic beat Marionville 41-28. Jordan Kabetske scored nine and Michayla Shanks had eight to lead the way for Republic.

The Lady Tigers come out of the Pink & White Lady Classic with an 8-2 record heading into the new year.

“Overall, we’re happy,” says Flood. “We’ll hopefully build on it and carry it over into 2014.”
