Republic controlled the ball for most of the game in a 2-0 win over Neosho at home Tuesday. Sara Marcotte scored once in the first half and once in the second half to account for the Lady Tigers’ scoring.
Republic had several other scoring chances, including a point-blank shot in the first half that bounced off a Neosho defender’s legs. In the second half, Brandy Glessner had the best scoring chance from about 15 yards out, but she drilled the ball just to the left of the goal.
“We did a lot of things very well,” says coach Mike Hines. “The one thing we talked about at halftime was improving our intensity, and coming out and playing against teams with a little bit of fire.
“But we didn’t make many mistakes. I don’t know if they had a shot. So in the broad scheme of things, it’s a win, and it’s a shutout, and that’s the most important thing.”
For Republic, it’s four wins in five days after they swept through the Ozark Shootout with a 3-0 record over the weekend.
