The Republic Lady Tigers put an exclamation point on their regular season with a 70-22 thrashing of Springfield Glendale Wednesday. Republic never allowed more than seven points in a quarter, as they ran their record to 24-1 heading into the playoffs.
Alice Heinzler scored 18 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Kayla Bartelsmeyer and Micah Mansker scored ten apiece. Sarah Kreul, Tori Taylor and Michayla Shanks each scored eight.
Republic led 14-9 after one quarter, but scored 14 in a row to run the lead to 28-9 in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the 2nd period. They led 43-9 at the half, and 64-15 after three quarters.
“A couple of our kids needed to get their legs back and get some rest after the last month or so, so we needed a game like this,” says coach Kris Flood. “We went out and did what we needed to do, and took care of things in the first half.”
Republic will start district play at Rogersville on February 26th at 6 p.m., after a having a bye in the first round. Republic meets the winner of Reeds Spring (9-13) and Cassville (11-13).
