The Lady Tigers volleyball team went on the road and picked up a big conference victory with a three-set thriller against Carthage. Republic knocked off Carthage 25-17 17-25 26-24.
After two sets, Republic and Carthage had played to a draw. And after 132 points, the teams were dead even, with each one winning 66. But with the score tied 24-24 in the 3rd, Republic won the next two points, and those were the difference.
Lexi Birlew led Republic with 12 kills and 22 digs. Sarah Kreul contributed 34 assists. Brandy Glessner led the team with three blocks.
“I think having been in a lot of really close matches already this season definitely helped us tonight,” says coach Piper Wright. “Every time we are in that situation we get more experience and learn how to keep our composure better on the court.”
Carthage falls to 11-5-2. Republic improves to 10-4. The Lady Tigers are in action Thursday at home against Branson.
