Republic Honors Ramsey

Kyra 002Republic High School honored former basketball player Kyra Ramsey during its homecoming game Friday. Her all-state plaque will be hung alongside other former all-state athletes from Republic.

Ramsey played four seasons for the Lady Tigers, and started on the varsity team her senior year, earning second-team all-state honors. She led the team in steals and assists both her junior and senior seasons. Her senior year, she was named the team’s defensive most valuable player.

“Kyra took a tremendous amount of pride in playing defense,” says Republic coach Kris Flood. “She played with heart, and had a true desire to do whatever it took to help her team come out on top.”

Ramsey helped Republic win three district championships, and make an appearance in the state quarterfinals her senior year. That season, the Lady Tigers were 22-7, and finished as runners-up in the COC, with a 6-1 conference record. Ramsey earned all-conference and all-district honors that season, too.

Ramsey also played volleyball for two years, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated with a 4.0 grade point average.

Ramsey is currently a starting guard for the Baker University Wildcats in Baldwin, Kansas.
