The Republic Lady Tigers outscored Aurora 33-17 in the second quarter, and went on to beat the host team of the Lady Houn’ Invitational 79-58 to start their season.
Sarah Kreul had ten points in that big second quarter, on the way to a game-high 23. Alice Heinzler scored 19 points for Republic, including three 3-pointers. Kayla Bartelsmeyer added 10.
The second-seeded Lady Tigers led 11-10 after one quarter, before pulling out to a 44-27 halftime lead. They extended the lead to 62-42 after three periods.
Republic next plays third-seeded Mt. Vernon Thursday at 8 p.m.
