Fast Start Not Enough for Republic Volleyball

The Republic volleyball team stormed ahead on the road at Glendale, but couldn’t hang on, falling in three sets, 25-12, 25-22, 25-22.

Republic used strong defense and an aggressive attack to dominate the first set. In the second, Republic appeared to take control when they built a 19-14 lead, but Glendale outscored the Lady Tigers 11-3 the rest of the way. The third set was back-and-forth, with Republic falling behind early 5-9. The game was tied three times after that, the latest at 19-19, but Republic could never take the lead.

Bri Goforth and Nicole Hallam led the Lady Tigers with seven kills apiece. Alex Botkin added six. Sarah Kreul had 26 assists, to go along with 12 digs. Goforth added 13 digs to lead Republic.

The loss was the first of the year for the Lady Tigers, who are back home Thursday against Mountain Grove.
