Wright Off to a Winning Start

The Lady Tigers volleyball team gave new coach Piper Wright a win to start her career at Republic. The Lady Tigers beat Bentonville, Ark., in two games, 25-23 25-21.

Republic fell behind in 16-10 in the first game, but stormed back to win in dramatic fashion.

“There’s really not a lot of teams that can do that,” Wright says. “It’s really hard once the other team gets the momentum to come back from something like that. It says a lot about our girls.”

The Lady Tigers built a big lead through the midway point of the second game, and hung on down the stretch to take the victory.

Briana Goforth had 9 kills and Sarah Kreul had 19 assists to lead the Lady Tigers. Kreul and Alex Botkin each added seven digs.

The JV team won 25-18 25-21. The freshmen won 25-17 25-15.

The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday at Carl Junction.
