Republic used a strong perimeter defense to create fast-break opportunities all night, on the way to a 68-44 win over Monett. The Tigers had three players in double figures in scoring. Nick Yocum scored 17 to lead Republic. Ryan Mathis had 15, and Nick Dibben added 14.
The Tigers jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter, and led 35-21 at halftime.
Monett was led by Kyle Woods, with 18 points.
Jonathan Combs added nine points for Republic. Cody Geiger had six, Jake Fletcher had four, Brody Thompson scored two, and Marcus Miller had one.
The win improves Republic’s record to 4-2. Monett falls to 1-6.
The freshmen and JV teams both won, too. For the freshmen, Austin Beckner had 13 points to lead the way in a 73-16 win. In the JV game, Canyon Smith scored 19 points as the Tigers beat the Cubs 65-37.
Next up for the varsity Tigers — the Blue/Gold Tournament. They’ll play on December 27th at 12:30 against Lebanon.
