Trouble at the free throw line and a couple of key turnovers down the stretch cost Republic in a 49-44 loss to Springfield Glendale.
The Lady Tigers trailed by eight points early in the third quarter, but used a 14-4 run to take the lead as time expired at the end of the period, 35-34. They stretched the lead to four points at 40-36, but Glendale went on an 8-1 run to grab the lead again, and they never trailed again. Republic closed to within one point in the final 90 seconds, but Glendale held off the Lady Tigers’ late charge.
Republic had one last chance, trailing by three with about :07 remaining, when Glendale missed a free throw. But the Lady Tigers were called for traveling as they tried to rush the ball up the court for a final shot.
Kayce Duvall led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 9 points. Kyra Ramsey had 7, and Jayme Sifferman and Courtney Gardner had 6 apiece.
The loss puts Republic’s record at 6-8. Glendale is 10-6.
