The Republic Lady Tigers scored only 13 points in the first half — but made up for lost time after the break, running away with a 63-38 win over McDonald County. The victory puts Republic in the finals of the Lady Houn’ Invitational at Aurora Saturday.
Republic jumped on top 2-0 with a quick score by Jayme Sifferman, but failed to score another field goal until late in the first quarter. They trailed 7-5 after one period.
To start the second quarter, the teams traded baskets early, until a 3-pointer by Courtney Gardner gave Republic the lead at 12-11. From there, McDonald County outscored the Lady Tigers 5-2 as the half ended, to take a 17-13 lead into the locker room.
But Republic scored the first seven points of the second half to storm ahead 20-17, and never trailed the rest of the way. They led 37-26 at the end of three quarters, and outscored McDonald County 26-12 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
