Courtney Gardner scored 14 points and Kayce Duvall had 12, as the Lady Tigers overcame turnovers and a rough shooting night to grind out a win at “The Pit” over Springfield Central, 57-47.
Republic used a big second quarter to pull away from Central, and that was the difference in the game. The two team were tied 9-9 after the first period, but the Lady Tigers outscored Central 21-10 in the second quarter, and led 30-19 at halftime.
Central took advantage of some sloppy play by the Lady Tigers to hang around in the 3rd quarter, and pulled to within seven points in the 4th quarter, but Republic hit 13 of 18 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Brittney McLellan was Central’s leading scorer with 16 points.
The JV team won 61-15. Sarah Kreul led the way in that game with 19 points.
