Rolla Outslugs Republic, Ruins Home Opener

Rolla blew a big lead, then came back to win going away in a 14-9 win at Republic Monday, spoiling the Lady Tigers’ home opener. The Lady Bulldogs banged out 18 hits and took advantage of four Republic errors, scoring in six of the seven innings.

Rolla scored six runs in the first two innings and seemed ready to run away with the game, but Republic scored six runs in the third inning to tie the score. After Rolla regained a 7-6 lead in the fourth, Republic scored three more in the fourth to take a 9-7 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Rolla’s Keira Chrisco struck one of the biggest blows of the game – a three-run homer that put the Lady Bulldogs back on top for good. Rolla added a single run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to put the game away.

Ella Tattershall had two hits for Republic. Jaci West and EmmaLee Essary each drove in two runs.

Mara Lakey took the loss, allowing seven earned runs (14 total) in seven innings of work. She walked two and struck out one.
