Carl Junction Blasts Past Lady Tigers

IMG_7327Part of having a young lineup is the uncertainty of how they’ll respond when the season begins. For the Republic volleyball team, it was a tough start at Carl Junction, as the Lady Tigers lost their opener 25-23 25-20.

Coach Piper Wright says the match highlighted some issues her team will have to deal with right away.

“One thing we’re going to work on first thing tomorrow in practice is our block on the outside,” says Wright. “We just didn’t turn it in like we should, and gave away a lot of points by not having a set block out there.

“Other than that, I really felt like did a pretty good job and adjusted pretty well to some things they were throwing at us. That’s a solid program, a solid team. We know what we need to work on, and we’ll do that tomorrow.”

After losing the close opening game, the Lady Tigers fell behind early in game two, trailing 10-5 and again 19-14. After a time out, Republic closed the gap to two at 19-17, but that’s as close as they got the rest of the way.

Wright says despite the loss, she’s glad to face a competitor in Carl Junction who can expose some weaknesses.

“It’s just going to get harder from here. With our schedule, we’re not going to get any breaks,” Wright says. “(The loss) something to light a little fire under us.”
