Off the Field: Tiger Theatre Success

Republic High School’s theater program made school history at MSHSAA Districts, with both their One-Act Play and Readers Theatre qualifying for the State competition in April.

The One-Act Play, “The Drowning Girls,” captured first place and the District Championship. The Readers Theatre production of “The Woodsman” earned second place, securing their spot at State as well. “This is the first time in Republic history that both Readers and One-Act Play have qualified to the State Championship,” said theater teacher and advisor David Krudwig. Several students received All-District Cast honors. The One-Act Play’s Vivian Barnette, Alanah Powell, and Maecie Liska were recognized with the Best Ensemble award. Readers Theatre cast members Riley Givens, Cruz Johnmeyer, Lindsey Lawhon, and Noah Kennard were named to the All-District Cast. Krudwig noted the challenge of advancing from the MSHSAA Springfield District, which he described as “one of the most competitive districts in the state.” Despite the competitive nature of the event, Krudwig highlighted the supportive atmosphere. “The students really enjoy getting to see the work that the other schools produce and to be able to share their passions with each other,” he said. “While it is a competition the students are always supportive of each other and the work that they bring.” The State competition will take place in April.
