Rogersville’s Sidney Shevchuk hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning and Rogersville turned away a final Republic rally to beat the Lady Tigers 7-6 on Monday in Rogersville.

Republic led 5-0 after three innings, but Rogersville scored in each of the next three innings to take the lead.

Mia Carnes led off the game with a double and scored on a two-out single by Maddie Taylor to put Republic up 1-0. Chloe Simpson homered to center field in the third, and the Lady Tigers kept piling on the runs early. Taylor doubled off the fence in left, Jayma Pitchford singled, and Kendra Goeke drove in Taylor with a line drive to left. Myleigh Mooneyham brought Pitchford home with a groundout, and Emma Ellison drove in another run with a shot off the center fielder’s glove to make it 5-0.

Rogersville led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run and added two more runs in the inning, one of them on a single and an error in left field. Kennedy Smithson came in to pitch with the score 5-3 and got the last two outs with two runners on base.

Rogersville scored again in the fifth after a Republic error to make it 5-4, and had runners at second and third with two outs. Ellison bobbled a ground ball at shortstop, but picked it up and threw out the batter to keep Republic in front.

Pitchford came in to pitch the sixth and got the first two outs. A double and a single put runners at first and third, a wild pitch moved both of them up, and Shevchuk homered to put Rogersville ahead 7-5.

The Lady Tigers threatened in the 7th but came up short. Taylor led off with a single, her fourth hit of the game. Goeke walked, a wild pitch put runners at second and third, and Mooneyham’s sacrifice fly to center field made it 7-6 and moved the tying run to third base. But Rogersville pitcher Bella Pope struck out Ellison on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.

Taylor finished 4-for-4. Carnes, Pitchford, and Ellison each had two hits, and Republic out-hit Rogersville 13-10.

The loss is the fourth straight for Republic, which falls to 7-13-1. Rogersville improves to 15-7. The Lady Tigers celebrate Senior Night at home on Tuesday against Carthage.
